raMz 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2010 Hello guys Im gonna build a new pc with following items: 6/8 gb ram Amd phenom x6 3,2 GHz processor Nvidia geforce 8800 GTS 1gb 2-3 harddrives How huge should my power supply be? Thanks Dont know if this is the right section
Synz 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2010 A 600W should power that nicely. Could probably do with less, but with a 600, you'll be fairly future proof. You need to be careful what brand you buy though, as some are really crappy. Also, pay attention to amps and number of rails, and the limits of each rail. If you've got a small case, consider getting a modular one.

Thanks Dont know if this is the right section I'd suggest a better video card, get a 200 series (nvidia) or a good ATI one...the rest is great, if u wanna keep it fresh I'd put a 700W

Thanks Dont know if this is the right section A 550W atleast, to be sure and future proof, buy a 650W (or higher) one ;) Some extra tips: - Buy your disk of equal size if you gonna put them in RAID, this optimises the RAID. - Your gfx card could do better related to your RAM - should go for an Nvidia Geforce 450GTS ;) - You should go for DDR3 ram - also ensure your mainboard supports DDR3 ! - If you go for DDR3 tri-channel technology, go for 6 GB RAM, 3x2GB. - If you go for DDR3 dual-channel technology, go for 8 GB RAM, 2x4GB. (this 4GB's are kinda expensive, I'd say go for tri-channel technology as it's the future !) - Match your RAM speed vs your mainboard supported ram speeds, ensure it's compatible - if not, performance might be decreased alot. - If you go for 64-bit OS, ensure both your CPU and mainboard support 64-bit technology ;)
raMz 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2010 Ofcause im going for 64 bit :) Ehm the GFX card i allready have bought for 300 Danish kr like 3 years ago and it's owning every single game, im kinda amazed. I see i wrote GTS but it is a GT only. The main board supports DDR3 PC-12800 so thats why i chose those ram. About the dual technologi im not that into that.. Is there a way to see it? Synz 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2010 im advicce you buy min 850watt PSU CM silent pro m 1000watt Both of those are overkill, he could power his computer with a 650 or 700. You could run 2 gaming computers with more parts than he has with that 1000W. 1000W are for HDD farms and people who like to waste money.

Well Dual channel for example will use 2 memory Slots, like 2x1GB will make a 2GB dual channel Tri-Channel like 3x2GB modules will make 6GM ram on 3 channels with 3 mem modules. The amount of Channels give u a fast memory access but just depending on what u use. My experience showed me the best speed i can get i get with 22x2GB in dual channel on windows XP. For Seven 3x2GB trichannel sounds great. And Check Bus Speeds on your motherboard and Memorys. If u are using 400 mhz memos on a motherboard that bus speed is 333 it all will work at 333.
