Una Nueva Idea Pars Que Entre Gente Nueva

In our latest update we added corrupted spells for new players, so they will depend a little less on money from the beginning. They get them for 30 days, that should be enough time to collect money and buy a full spellbook and save up some more for repairs later on. In terms of pits, there is a full game guide of all mobs, their drops and their pits including the pit locations available at the nemesis website (game info section)

    Hows Everybody Doing?

Nice to hear back from you snow. I had the honor to be the first GM to meet Lorraine and Scatterp in real life... I met them both in 2008. Later on in 2010 Farjat visited europe and I met up with him and we both visited Lorraine (for me 2nd time visiting her). Both times were pleasant and great to meet the bad-*censored* creators/owners of nemesis back then. About hunter... unfortunately he vanished into thin air leaving us a quite negative feeling as the last we heard from him, he was dealing with cancer (march 2010 with last info and a last account access on october 2010 but no info unfortunately) ... So we actually fear the worst for hunter that he may have passed away :( although we hope he didn't and will find us sooner or later... Recently (Jan 2014) I tried to track him with information related to him that's over 6 years old, but never heard back from the people in the USA who were "going to let me know something"... Being the worst of the worst? I don't think it gets worse than me lol... the entire community hates me (because I never make them what they ask lol) and thinks I'm a (quoted from the community) "butthurt *censored*" xD If you want to catch up, we also actively advertise and bring news through facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/hbnemeint ), get in touch with the admins of the page (Farjat and me) and we could set up a chat (by FB or skype) :p

    Hows Everybody Doing?

Hi Snow! Nice to meet ya :D You're a GM from before my era... and that era started in june 2008, so that is quite a while already :o Sexy and scatterp arn't really around anymore, they pop in once a year or something to say hi and leave after a day again xD Farjat kinda does run the show around here until I worked my way up the ladder and now run the show with him side by side :D Farjat mainly cocerns with community and advisory on the nemesis trajectory where I mainly do the game designing (new features etc) and game coding. I bet you did an awesome job back in the days, these days our forum admin is Jing, he runs the circus to keep everyone tamed and in line around the forums ;) If you want to catch up on the past years, feel free to give us a call :) Regards, White[GM] - Nemesis Admin & Coder

    Boss Mechanics

Interesting ideas and opinion here. I've noticed that in many major mmo's such special abilities often are pre-seeded with a warning of some kind, either that be an attack animation stopping, a text being shouted or a visual effect being added. These warnings clearly show the players what's about to come, so they can prepare for it accordingly. So if the effect be a large area freeze, poison or an item-activation, a warning was given making it possible to act accordingly (run away, equip anti-poison gear, stop attacking, etc...) Minions are meant to be supportive to the boss and should be seen as "part of the boss" as a whole. As bosses who have minions under their control are effectively harder than without them, the minions could drops their own unique items and/or the boss could have increased drop rate as the overall difficulty is higher, and drop rates are based on the difficulty of the enemy, whether that be a single mob, or a mob with minions. Usually minions aren't deadly if you kill them as they spawn, while not killing them and solidly focusing on the boss could prove them being deadly, especially if they overwhelm you in numbers or simply you losing hp at a faster rate than you can (be) healed. This mechanic would rather prove overwhelming when trying to solo a boss, but the task becomes easier of you duo the boss where one could focus on dpsing the boss while the other could focus on minions. Essentially that can be translated from small-scale bosses to large scale bosses with big-*censored* minions or huge numbers of minions. I especially liked the ideas of freezing and poisoning areas aswell as para'ing. To give you a more details idea, I've quickly taken an extract from a larger concept in which boss mechanics would/could be featured. The draft I have up now has mechanics as following: * Note: Keep in mind that this is solidly a DRAFT, nothing is permanently determined, it hasn't even been tested at all if the described powers or mechanics give the desired game-play effect.

    Boss Mechanics

I'd like to poll the community for their opinion on "boss mechanics", do you like to have unique/special boss mechanics in helbreath? If you do, feel free to tell us what kind of mechanics you're looking for. If you don't feel like it, explain us why you wouldn't want any specific/unique mechanics in helbreath. To clearify what I mean with "boss mechanics" I'll briefly show the tip of the iceberg of an idea that has been floating around to possibly come to nemesis. Boss mechanics could be monsters that perform specific abilities or use specific armors and spells in a certain way. For example a boss mob could be offensive at the start of a battle, but once you drop its health below a certain threshold (e.g. 50%) the mob will change strategy and fight you in a different way. It could be that the mob fights offensive using magic spells, once it drops below 50% hp it goes defensive and starts using a merien shield for example. Another mechanic could be that a boss mob spawns additional monsters (in game-terms often called "adds") to aid it in battle and effectively makes it slightly harder to actually kill the boss mob as the adds could possibly deal significant damage, be irritating/aggrevating, cast protection spells on the boss or even completely change mechanics where you'd be required to kill adds before you can continue killing the boss mob.

    Boss Mechanics

The ranked mobs fitted perfectly for halloween, but putting them out in others areas their coloring is not actually that fitting for their environments. I like to change their coloring to be different or another clear way showing that these mobs are stronger than usually.

    Nemesis Pvp Event

There will be. beta exclusive pvp events once the system is in place. This was already announced earlier previous test sessions.

    Nemesis Pvp Event

I'm just saying I won't do one myself. The idea is good, but I will not do it unless the system designed to do it is in place.

    Nemesis Pvp Event

Any gm is free to host a small scale one for a couple stones if they like. If you're bored hearing about tournaments, you should perhaps consider helping to test it. Without the player's effort I can't finish it. I need to test a range of x vs x combinations now to ensure tournaments behave and score accordingly in these type of events. If you put effort in testing, I will ensure pvp events that'll blow you mind once the system is in place.

    Auto Reconnect Issue

Really nice to see people take the effort to report the issue and get involved in resolving it :)

    Auto Reconnect Issue

dwTime is a local variable which contains the current time (retrieved using the standard windows function timeGetTime()) m_dwTime is a global variable which contains the time when the last "change" has occured, either that be something occuring in the socket or the game mode being changed. [edit] Thx for pointing that piece of code out, it appears it NEVER gets executed because the m_dwTime variable is set by the on game mode change, thus the difference between dwTime and m_dwTime will always be ZERO, thus never more than 1000. I've removed the condition, it'll be available on the next client patch.
  15. WhiteFang

    Auto Reconnect Issue

    When the client terminates the connection the object which contains the socket is deleted, thus it no longer exists. Even if the server would eventually accept a reconnect, and sends data back to the client, that data won't get sent as the socket has been closed. Closed sockets can't accept connections, they're closed. If you wonder what the code looks like: if (m_bEscPressed) { ChangeGameMode(DEF_GAMEMODE_ONMAINMENU); if ((dwTime - m_dwTime) > 1000) { if (m_pLSock != NULL) { delete m_pLSock; m_pLSock = NULL; } if (m_pGSock != NULL) { delete m_pGSock; m_pGSock = NULL; } } m_bEscPressed = false; return; }

    How's The Server Going?

The 180 quests are popped to you right from the beginning when you start playing. The objectives (what you need to do) are straight forward and fairly natural to do (such as join town etc), not really hard at all. Nemesis has indeed seen its third wipe, the first one occurred back in 2007, I joined mid 2008 as a dev GM, so I'm unaware how long nemesis 1 actually ran. But given that the last reset was in 2013 and nemesis 2 started in 2007... that's a solid 6 years. We don't plan to reset any time soon.

    Auto Reconnect Issue

I verified the code, and after pressing escape it shows the login screen, which is correct. From that point on all connections between the client and server are non existent, the socket is deleted and there is no connection established at all.

    How's The Server Going?

Hi mentone! welcome back ^_^ We had the start of a new Era in August 2013, with the new Era we've also cleared all accounts and characters so everyone starts on an equal foot. The new Era brings stability in the realm of nemesis after a long period of instability, our servers now can run months on end without a reboot (this wasn't the case at the end of nemesis 2, a lot of crashes and unstable code). Besides stability, this new Era also brings some change since nemesis 2: - Slightly increased drop rate - Decreased gold drop rate - Balanced out quests - Party members shown on mini map - Lockable recall point - and more... This Era, called the Golden Era, will also feature new content (yet to come) expanding Dragonia with the 8th Dragon, a new map, 8 new monsters to fight, World Quests, (Automated) Big-*censored* Scavenger hunts, PvP tournaments (including GvG, All vs All, X vs X), a new hunt-only map (to be confirmed), 3 new skills to train and much much more :D We've also recently decided to have quests in place to boost players directly to level 180.

    Hb Comunity Development

True, it took me like 2 years to earn the trust to access the source code... ever since I've been working on it... which is at this point for 4 years xD... so I've been around nemesis for the past 6 years doing code snippets at first and fully blown coding since year 2 that I joined :)

    Hb Comunity Development

At nemesis we do have a public coding section (http://www.helbreathnemesis.com/forum/index.php?showforum=303) where people can ask questions related to HB coding... So if you want to contribute in code and have questions related to some stuff, can always ask them there, i'll gladly answer them. Even if you wish to extend parts of the new features/code of nemesis and have a question on how it's structured, i'll try and reply those as well ^_^

    Hb Comunity Development

Grab any 3.72 source and you're close to what Nemesis has today except for the character saving which is mssql and all new features. So if you wish to contribute code, make and test yours in a 3.72 and post it here, should be easy to copy-paste if what you make fits within Nemesis ofcourse.

    Players Coming And Going

@fyw and ulez: Let's say in a hypothetical world where prices of repairs and spells are slim to none. The time you spent gathering gold for spells, armor purchased and repairs you would also spend in this hypothetical world obviously. That time spent would earn you a couple mil of gold probably. Thus in this hypothetical you'll sit on a pile of 1 mil gold, which you have NO PLACE to spend it on... so what is the value of 1 mil gold then? it would be worth nothing in this hypothetical world. Zems would cost 4 or 5 mil a piece... Where as in the current nemesis, with the prices as they are, you'd have spent the same time, thus also collecting a couple mil of gold probably. But you'd have it spent on spells etc, only sitting on a couple 100k's of gold in the end... You've spent the majority of your gold, your remaining 100k is worth a lot because you'll need about 400 to 500k to buy a zem... Both world are EXACTLY the same, except that the number is increasingly higher, yet the RATIO between prices remain exactly the same. It only poses an issue on the technical side where if we introduce new gold sinks or features related to gold, we'd be able to add sensible values in current nemesis, whereas we'd need 100's of MILLIONS of gold requirements in this hypothetical world, and in there going towards these extreemly high numbers poses a technical issue where the current gold limitation is 2 billion gold. So increasing rates or decreasing prices will have exactly the same ratios for gold vs items (mainly non-shop items). @yuck: people who come from olympia, world, or any other fruit server obviously find nemesis tedious regarding gold, gold has a value in nemesis where as in all other fruit servers gold is useless and not even used as a currency to trade anything. Those people are spoiled and don't like to work to become the best of the game, they expect it to be handed to them like it happens in the fruit servers.
